C.H.I.L.D. - Sponsor A School

Goal:

To provide the opportunity for children to attend school and receive adequate support in the form of food, clothing, books and supplies, and family support so that they can focus on excelling to their highest potentials. And to upgrade schools so that their students can have a fair chance to compete in the future job market and be able to sustain a self-sufficient and independent life.

Selection Criteria for Schools:

1. Schools that have less than 200 students.
2. Schools that are located in economically deprived areas.
3. School administrators are willing to allow receipt of donations as well as visits and interviews with children and teachers as needed.

Assessment:

Schools are assessed by our volunteer coordinators in two categories:

1. Attending students: details concerning children such as family status, nutrition, medical needs, clothing and other basic living essentials.
   
   
2. Schools program and facility in relation to providing the students with sufficient support to prepare them for higher education or job market.

School's immediate needs will be evaluated to indicate whether:

• All areas of discipline (math, science, humanities) are taught in the school
• Books and class room conditions are adequate
• Heating is available
• Computer Center exists
• Library exists
• Sanitary Conditions are proper and adequate

Recommended Objectives:

CHILD strives to provide the following at each school site:

Individual Needs:

• Food: One warm meal per day
• Clothing: Season appropriate shoes and clothing
• School Supplies: Adequate books and supplies
• Sanitary Needs: Allowance for taking a bath at least once a week
• Gifts: For holidays

Educational Needs:

• Teaching staff
• Library
• Computer Center
• Workshops
• Additional preparatory classes

Dormitory Accommodations:

• Bed & Bedding for each child
• Towel & Sanitary needs for each child
• Adequate Heating and/or cooling

Future Needs:

1. Continuing education potential of children are evaluated and discussed.
2. Obstacles in continuing education to the next level are identified so that we can take a proactive role in removing these obstacles.
